“I am happy for who I am, and what I have come to be. I look forward to whatever else that may come with positivity.” Cornelius Kilgore (born 1973); Military
Now that the holidays are over and the new year is waiting to jump out of it’s box, I have began my personal “year in review”. I usually spend a couple of days reflecting on the year that is passed. This usually brings forth a pluthera of emotions: happiness, sadness, excitement, disappointment, gratitude, and even some sorrow. But in the end, I am grateful that I was able to experience the year and all of the adventures that I embarked on. These experiences and adventures have shaped me and have helped me grow and mature into a person I have come to like. Now I can look forward to the New Year with new eyes and new endeavors on the horizon. I dappled with mandala meditation a few years ago and just the other day, I reread some of the info I’d gathered and realized that it again spoke to me. I have always loved coloring, painting, and just being creative with color, so if I can tap into this creative side while at the same time, quieting my mind and finding a sense of peace while doing it, I’m there! I found a website that offers free mandalas to download, print and color as you wish. http://www.free-mandala.com/en/start.html There is a lot of information out there about the use of mandalas in meditation and the significance of colors and patterns; give it a try, you may surprise yourself, no artistic ability required!
I colored this Sun Mandala (pictured above) a couple of days ago and what it does for me is to invoke the feelings of warmth and my love of nature. It also reminds me that we all need light in our lives to blossom and flourish. Whether that light comes from outside of ourselves, or from within, we can find it if we look.
Gaia was kind enough to shed some of her light (in the form of beautiful sunshine) on us
today, so I just couldn’t resist getting out and going for a walk. The snow you see on the ground arrived yesterday. It wasn’t the pretty and delicate snow that we do get, but instead, it started out as large gloppy wet flakes that accumulated into a thick slush that soaks everything and everybody that is out in it. But as the day wore on, it accumulated and so now, we do have a bit of “winter” on our ground. As I was preparing for my walk today, I decided that I could still “do yoga” outside, even on a bitterly cold day. It might not be as pretty as someone achieving a beautiful Vrksasana (Tree Pose) on a beautiful beach, but for me, it was wonderful!
Namaste,
Sheri
